We have been honoured by being one of the five bands asked to play the Hobbit’s upcoming fundraiser…..
For those of you who haven’t heard the story, The Hobbit pub in Southampton made international news headlines back in March this year after it was threatened with legal action for “infringing” the copyrights of ‘The Hobbit’ trademark. After a Facebook campaign to Save the Hobbit attracted 60,000 supporters including backing by Stephen Fry, the Hollywood lawyers backed down from their initial stance and reduced their terms.
However, contrary to popular belief, the situation is still ongoing!! The Hobbit are still no further along to sorting out the legal issues and the legal fees that have be incurred in their fight against the bullies are quickly mounting. In order to help them cover their legal expenses an all day, Save The Hobbit fundraiser is being run on Saturday 11th August.
Yellowgroove have been invited to play at the event alongside 4 other bands and will be on stage at 2.15pm for 1 hour, for more info, visit our facebook event. This will be followed by an auction of Tolkien memorabilia, signed items by Stephen Fry and a live Skype call with novelist Neil Gaiman. Music continues outside from 4.30pm with a headline band TBA. Blue Screen of Death and Kamikaze Test Pilots will play later on in the evening inside the Hobbit. The day kicks off at 12.00 with the first band, The Moulettes, on at 13.00. Entry for the whole day is with a wristband which can be purchased from the Hobbit for £10.
We will have some limited edition CDs for sale on the day that will feature our forthcoming single, Fading Out. Some of the CDs will also have limited edition, hand painted artwork commemorating the ‘Save the Hobbit’ day as well as other imagery depicting lyrics from our songs. Yellowgroove’s very own Simon Stevens has painted the first of these CD covers and, as we’re sure you’ll agree, it looks fantastic!
